ABOUT - Holly Ann Friesen

As an artist based in Northwestern Ontario I am endlessly inspired by my surrounding landscape. My art practice involves taking the familiar and creating something new in abstraction. The goal is to create an emotional connection to the original subject by focusing on the negative space in my initial concept. I want the viewer to discover the subject matter with a unique perspective.

I started my professional career as a scientifc researcher in the feld of genetics before turning to the arts, a feld that requires a great deal of creativity and examination of concepts in the abstract. I apply these concepts to my art practice where subject matter is examined at a micro and macroscopic level leading to the overall imagery. In Kenora, I own and operate a gallery and studio space in Kenora - HAF |Art Studio + Gallery which is open to the public.
