ABOUT - GALEN FELDE

Galen Felde‘s work explores issues empathy, impermanence and our difficult relationship with origins, adaptation and alteration of the landscape.   Echoing familiar land-forms, her work is a complex and often disguised integration of natural and urban elements.  Characteristic use of trace images and skewed focus reference the construction of memory, the resonance of absence and the process of release.  Her paintings combine acrylic texturing an under-painting with feathered brushwork and numerous transparent washes on wood panel.  Galen’s multi-media installation, integrates painting, video, photography and construction.

Galen was born in Vancouver, BC and studied the visual arts and contemporary dance in Vancouver BC, London Eng. and in Montreal Que.  The division of her time between the raw but vulnerable nature of the BC Interior, and the geometry, chaos and mutability of urban settings, were instrumental in informing her artistic vocabulary.  She has been a full-time practising artist for over two decades, with yearly exhibits, an extensive body of work and representation locally and in Eastern Canada.  Her paintings are collected internationally.
