Wendy Bermingham

Welcome the incredible floral landscapes of Wendy Bermingham, We are honored to have her in the gallery!

Wendy Bermingham was born in the small town of Aurora, Ontario and now resides in Pickering, which lies along the shores of Lake Ontario, just outside of the city of Toronto. Wendy graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1985, with a major in Communication and Design and was awarded the Southham Scholarship for Excellence.

After graduation, Wendy developed a successful career at the in-house art studio of Ogilvy and Mather Advertising in Toronto and worked as a graphic designer and art director on major accounts such as Canadian Pacific and Minera Mines. With much consideration, she made the major decision to take a hiatus to raise her children and during that period, spent time getting back to nature and discovered that capturing the landscape on canvas was her true calling. She now paints full time in her studio or plein air and has traveled throughout Canada, Europe and the USA to paint, including Italy, California and Arizona but northern Ontario like Algonquin Park, Killarney and Lake Superior are where her true passion lies.

Wendy paints in traditional oil on canvas and wood and would describe her style as realism with an impressionistic twist.

As an artist of the contemporary landscape, what truly captivates Wendy is the abstract quality of trees and the lines and shapes created by their trunks and branches. She uses a combination of brush and palette knife to explore the textures of her subject and to find an expression of movement, while being sensitive to the realistic patterns and colours of light. Wendy wants the viewer to see every brush of paint, to feel the motion of her palette knife and to visually experience all that inspires her.

Wendy is an elected member of the Ontario Society of Artists and the Society of Canadian Artists and has won many awards for her work including an Award of Excellence from the Society of Canadian Artists in 2016. Her work can be found in private collections in Canada and the US.
